Hi, I’m Erwin Van der Stappen

Colorist with nearly 30 years of experience in the film industry. Since 2018 I'm working as a full time colorist.

My background as a cameraman/DoP became a valuable asset for exploring the world of color and building a solid technical foundation in color grading.

After several courses with the well-known Kevin Shaw & Dado Valentic I realized how hard it is to learn the craft of high-end color grading and get to know the tools & tricks all the veterans are using.

A never ending journey, focusing on every detail, be meticulous but fast at the same time, harmonizing different ideas and presenting new ones.

Color grading represents a harmonious blend of art and science, achieved through creative collaboration with others.

To properly color an image you must unpack not just the available toolset in the software but it’s intended emotional impact. Grading is a complex technical journey, but simplifying the process makes it an intuitive experience resulting in a beautiful film.

I’m familiar with Davinci Resolve and SGO Mistika Boutique.
